TOUR OF THE EMERSON SCHOOL OF HOSPITALITY
Tuesday,
February 20, 2007
Located in the historic Root Building at 70-86 Chippewa
Street in downtown Buffalo, the Emerson School of Hospitality is a 4 year
comprehensive public high school which provides vocational training in the
hospitality industry, in addition to regular core academic studies to over
400 students. In addition to classroom instruction, students are involved
in all aspects of the operation of a restaurant, which is open to the
public for breakfast and lunch, and selected dinner events. The facility,
known as Emerson Commons, also provides an extensive array of banquet
services, in several private dining facilities within the complex.
I am truly excited about this opportunity to have our
membership tour Emerson’s state of the art facilities and to taste the
superior quality food for which the operation is becoming well-known.
Tours will be given by students, and will include an explanation of the
rigorous 4 year academic and vocational program in which they participate.
A sumptuous buffet dinner, prepared by the students, will follow and the
evening will conclude with remarks by members of the instructional staff.
Please join us for a very interesting evening and a
pleasurable culinary dining experience, as we get to tour and see
first-hand a crown jewel in the City of Buffalo public school system.
Emerson is located on the south side of Chippewa
Street, between Delaware Avenue and Franklin Street. Enter the building
through the doorway at 86 Chippewa, (the entrance, closest to Delaware),
and proceed to the elevator, to the second floor, from which tours will
begin. There is ample on-street parking at meters, or in the Augsburger
ramp, which runs between Pearl and Franklin, south of Chippewa.
