JOINT IRRA FOR WNY & ERA MEETING
Wednesday, April 21, 2004
Since 1880, The Buffalo News has had its roots in the
City of Buffalo – the heart and core of Western New York. At a cost of $40
million, The News has remodeled, updated and installed two
state-of-the-art presses. The new presses, which were manufactured by
Koening & Bauer Albert Group (KBA), are doublewide, high speed, shaftless
offset presses standing 52 feet tall and 110 feet in length, weighing 650
metric tons each. Each press is also equipped with seven, 25 foot printing
towers and 37 printing couples capable of printing a six section 80-page
newspaper with up to 245 pages of full color. The News will be redesigned
to be bolder, brighter, more colorful and will be better organized and
easier to read with reproduction quality to rival any newspaper in the
world. Representatives of The News will make presentations regarding these
changes and the human resources and labor relations challenges this
project has manifested. Following the presentation there will be guided
tours of the facility. Please join us for this joint meeting and bring a
colleague.
